Setúbal Peninsula

Taking into account the history of the Sado River estuary and the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean ports of Setúbal and Sesimbra, the cuisine of the Setúbal region is obviously based on fish and seafood dishes.

Emblematic of the city is the delicious “fried cuttlefish”. Of course, there are other dishes worth trying, such as the famous sardines, which even have a festival where this fish is the main attraction and focus.

Smell

By smell, the production of wine from the Setúbal region gave life to internationally renowned products, with a variety of high quality red and white wines. Among these wines, Moscatel stands out, a sweet wine with a controlled designation of origin, consecrated since Louis XIV demanded to have the fortified wine of Setúbal for all his parties in Versailles.

Another piece with a characteristic smell that is worth trying is Queijo de Azeitão, a creamy goat cheese known for its complex and strong flavor with an acidic, salty and spicy mixture that was originally a continuation of the production of Queijo da Serra in Azeitão that resulted into a new and unique type of cheese.

One of Setúbal's biggest attractions is its natural heritage, especially its beaches. All very different from each other, they have one thing in common: they are all located in the Arrábida Natural Park.

Visit Cabo Espichel first and fall in love with the

breathtaking view of the coast, cross the coast and choose one of the many beach options in Portinho da Arrábida, such as Ribeira do Cavalo, with crystal blue waters, clean white sand and surrounded only by the ocean and the rocks.

Collaborative handicraft and decoration stores, with a strong offer of typically Portuguese and Setúbal products such as original ceramics, textiles, wallets, crochet keyrings, wicker baskets and magnets with motifs related to fishing.

The most sought-after pieces are cribs, in winter, and glass magnets, in summer. It is especially appreciated by Portuguese emigrants in England, France and Germany.
