Algarve

The southernmost part of the country, which has always been a summer destination, as it has a south and west coast completely bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, the sun, seafood and golden beaches make this region a more than perfect beach destination.

To the north there is a mountainous border with the Alentejo plain and to the east with Spain.

In this inland region it is still possible to find a genuine rurality in picturesque villages and even in the towns of Monchique and Silves.

The cities of Portimão, Faro and the sophisticated Vilamoura have a lively nightlife, golf lovers can also enjoy 5-star resorts and professional courses along the coast. In this region you can also find the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, the islands of Faro, Tavira and Olhão and their salt pads.

Taste

As a region with an extensive coastline, Algarve cuisine is strongly based on fresh fish and seafood. One of the best known dishes of this region is the delicious and tasty Cataplana Algarvia, an Arabian side dish made with a mixture of fish and seafood vegetables and sauce cooked in a unique copper pot also called "cataplana".

To sweeten your heart, try Dom Rodrigo, the most famous pastry shop in the Algarve. It was created by a monk named “Dom Rodrigo” in a monastery in Lagos and is made with fresh egg yolk, almonds and sugar. The originality of this little candy? It is presented in an aluminum packaging in different colors. You can find them in most small neighborhood cafes in the Algarve.

Smell

The Algarve region is home to the country's most impressive natural wonders. Cross the region from one side to the other following the enveloping smell of the sea and don't forget to stop at the best known beaches such as Praia da Marinha and Benagil.

Upon reaching the westernmost point of the region, be sure to take a look at Sagres, known for the fort located very close to the edge of the cliff. Take the opportunity to absorb the beauty of the landscape, feel the aromas of the sea and the feeling of freedom. Curiosity: The longest straight walk in the world starts in Jinjiang (China) and ends in Sagres!

See

Although the Algarve region is best known for its stunning beaches with breathtaking scenery, this region is also home to beautiful and typical villages that also deserve recognition.

One of the most typical and picturesque villages in the Algarve is Alte, a beautiful village with a church of

Manueline architecture and Algarvian tradition, houses with white walls and colorful tiles. For a more real vibe, be sure to visit the stunning village called Estoi. Feel like you're in the 19th century when visiting the glamorous Estoi Palace with its rococo architecture and beautiful gardens, or in the 11th century enjoying the Roman ruins of Milreu.

Touch

The Algarve is also home to beautiful crafts that preserve the history of the region's traditions and culture. Get in touch with this art form that is as beautiful as it is multipurpose.

This is the example of Empreita, a basket made from palm leaves to help transport figs and almonds. A handicraft that the locals are promoting to avoid extinction is pottery, an art that has been present in the country since the Middle Ages. Now you can find my stores spread across the region with a variety of ceramic options such as plates and tiles with colorful and intricate designs.

Listen

Take the time to discover exceptional locations from the sea.

Day or night, take advantage of the sea to admire the rocks and caves at dusk or in the middle of the day.

Enjoy these nice nautical activities off the Atlantic Ocean!

Listen to the waves, the calm sea, the motor of the boats, the laughter of children, welcome to the Algarve!
